SIMON THE INCREDIBLE: A NOVEL

An Educational Novel For Use in
Basic Finance Classes

Simon the Incredible is a supplemental text to be used in a finance course or a MBA course. The novel could be used in an advanced managerial accounting course or a quantitative financial accounting course.

"Victor the Victim," the CEO of a Fortune Company, is besieged with woes: A duodenal ulcer fertilized with too much alcohol, a failing heart, a failing marriage, and a failing company. But fear not, for help is on its way, in the form of "Simon the Incredible," an anthropomorphic break-even chart who is breakaway smart. He can be housed as a spreadsheet inside your own PC.

In a pedagogical tour de force, Simon takes Victor through the deluge of garbage his planners have thrown into his fragmented MIS, and shows him how to sift it out. The process can save the company- but can it save Victor- and his marriage? Does Simon have designs that reach beyond Victor's corporate MIS? Helen, MBA, Victor's beautiful wife, likewise, is breakaway smart.

Simon applies his Delphi method to perform a financial forensic analysis of the strategic plans submitted by the profit centers, in their petitions for the funds they say they need to increase their market shares, reduce their costs, and increase their profits. But are their plans credible? Will Helen believe Simon is credible? The survival of the company, of Helen, and of Simon are at stake.
